We are preparing for a significant wind event coming for the next two days. The winds will begin this evening (Tuesday, October 29) and are likely to continue through Thursday. As we saw with the Thomas Fire, if we have a fire it will move very quickly. It is also possible we may have power outages, both from the Public Safety Power Shutoff, as well as a possible line down from the wind.

If you have not set aside your important documents and belongings, please make sure you have a plan in the event of an evacuation.

You do not need to wait until we tell you to evacuate to leave. If you feel unsafe, you may leave. If you see fire, smell smoke or any other hazardous condition, please call 911 immediately.

If you evacuate, please drive carefully, watch for downed power lines, trees and other possible debris. The Sheriff’s Office will use www.readyventuracounty.org/vc-alert/ to notify residents of an evacuation. Follow www.vcemergency.com/ for up to date information. Make sure you are signed up on a cell device or other device that will work without direct power in the event of a power outage.

If you have large animals, please make plans to get them to the proper shelter, please do not enter closed areas. The Ventura County Fairgrounds are on stand by in the event we have a significant event that will have the need for evacuations.

If we lose power and you don’t have a phone, but do have an AM radio, please visit the city’s radio station at AM 1610.
