Community Development Department
The Community Development Director has direct oversight for all functions of the Community Development Department. The department includes the Planning Division, Building and Safety Division, and Code Compliance Division.
The Planning Division is responsible for all current and long range planning functions for the City. Current planning involves land development projects including zone clearance for building permits, use permits, design review permits, and subdivisions. In contrast, long range planning encompasses preparing and updating the City’s General Plan, which serves as the blueprint for development in the City, and maintaining the City’s Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Maps.
The Building and Safety Division is responsible for processing building permits, plan checks, conducting site and building inspections, monitoring construction activities and enforcing Ojai’s codes.
The Building and Safety Division is available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 and 12:00 pm to answer questions.
The Code Compliance Inspector is responsible for the enforcement of the Municipal Code including unsafe building conditions. Complaints may be made via the City’s Code Violation online form available here. You may access a fillable pdf form by downloading this form.
