A one-stop recovery assistance center for victims of the Thomas Fire will open Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. The address is 3451 Foothill Road, Ventura, CA 93003.

The Local Assistance Center will be open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center will remain open through December 31, or earlier, as needed.

The center will have representatives on hand from all agencies that fire victims would need assistance from. They will be able to address all recovery needs, from housing, health, employment, contractor information, hazardous waste removal to even clothing and replacing identification documents.

Agencies on hand will be able to assist with both immediate disaster-related needs such as housing, health, clothing, etc. as well as ongoing, longer-term needs, as people rebuild their homes and lives.

A partial list of state agencies represented includes the following:

  • Office of Emergency Services
  • Department of Insurance
  • Department of Public Health
  • Contractors’ State License Board
  • Department of Motor Vehicles
  • Employment Development Department
  • Franchise Tax Board
  • Housing and Community Development

Local charities will also participate, including the Red Cross, The United Way, the Salvation Army and others.

Because people affected by a disaster are often traumatized and not at their normal peak focus, each person or family visiting the center will be met by a trained helper who will sit with them, discuss their situation, and develop a checklist of everything they will need to do. These helpers will then stay with each person or family during their visit, to guide them to each agency representative they need to meet with, to ensure they address each item on their list.

While the City of Ojai seeks to provide as much recovery information as possible to City residents, this site should not be considered residents’ definitive recovery information source. The County of Ventura website Ventura County Recovers should be all residents’ primary source of Thomas Fire recovery information.
