Arts Grants Application Workshop to be Held on Monday, August 12, 2019

The City of Ojai Arts Commission is pleased to announce that applications for the 2020 Grant Program are now being accepted. The program is designed to fund individual artists and non-profit organizations that produce or present the arts and/or cultural programs that primarily benefit the City and Ojai’s residents. The program has helped many organizations and individuals produce successful arts and cultural programs that otherwise might not have occurred due to lack of funding.

Ventura County Animal Services to Host “Clear The Shelters” Adoption Event on Saturday, August 17, 2019

The Ventura County Animal Services is scheduled to host their biggest pet adoption event of the year! The “Clear The Shelters” event will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and takes place at their two locations: Camarillo Animal Shelter, 600 Aviation Drive Camarillo, CA 93010 and Simi Valley Animal Shelter, 670 W. Los Angeles Ave. Simi Valley, CA 93065.

Southern California Edison Pole Replacement Program Update

The City of Ojai has received inquiries about Southern California Edison’s (SCE) program for pole replacement and related shutdowns. SCE has stressed the importance of these projects in reducing fire risk.

The City has a process with SCE to ensure that adequate notice will be provided before poles are replaced. The City has begun reviewing each pole replacement individually, and is working with SCE in an attempt to identify optimal conditions for shutdowns to lessen the impact on residents.

City of Ojai Adopts Ordinance Prohibiting Smoking in Multi-unit Residences

At its June 25, 2019 meeting the Ojai City Council adopted an ordinance prohibiting smoking in multi-unit residences. The law goes into effect on July 25, 2019.

The new law comes in response to concerns raised by local members of the public. It follows a statewide trend of cities and counties enacting laws protecting residents of multi-unit housing from second-hand smoke.

The ordinance expands on Ojai’s Municipal Code Section 5-10.03, which prohibits smoking in most public spaces within the City.
