Update on Small Fire Behind City Hall

On December 18, 2017, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a fire started in the barranca behind City Hall on City property. According to County Fire, the fire burned less than a half-acre of grass and trees. The fire did not threaten structures and it has been extinguished. The cause is under investigation, but it appears to be unrelated to the Thomas fire.

Street Sweeping/Ash Clean Up Update

The City will be testing out clean up methods to begin cleaning ash from City streets in the coming days. The City plans to do the following:

Arcade/Plaza/downtown area/Parks: Public Works crews have been targeting debris/ash accumulation areas using gentle broom work to minimize dust generation. We are water pressure washing some areas, though being careful not to generate dust.

We tested a street sweeper last Tuesday. However, the dust suppression was insufficient because a lot of dust was being generated.

Important Information for Local Businesses Effected by the Thomas Fire

The Economic Development Collaborative of Ventura County will have a satellite center open in Ojai, starting Monday, at 401 South Ventura Street, 8:00 to 5:00. They will have Small Business Development Center representatives at these sites on a rotating basis. EDC-VC is providing the following information to businesses effected by the fire:

The Ojai Recreation Department is offering childcare service Monday, December 18th, Tuesday, December 19th, and Wednesday, December 20th in light of the Thomas Fire school closures.

Hours: 8 am-5:30 pm
Fee: $20 per day per child
Ages: 5-13 years
Location: The Boyd Center at Sarzotti Park, 510 Park Road.

All fun activities will be held inside and air filter masks will be provided for free. Parents must come inside and sign waivers before children can attend,
