(OJAI, Calif.) – To continue protecting public health as the Coronavirus emergency evolves, the City of Ojai has prohibited chair placement by members of the public along Ojai Avenue in advance of the July 4, 2020 Independence Day Parade.
Setting up chairs along the parade route has a long history in Ojai. However, the chairs’ close proximity to each other, plus the possibility of passers-by touching chairs could inadvertently spread the virus. Chairs could also block access to local businesses’ customer curbside pick-up points, a crucial service as Ojai’s businesses reopen as restrictions are lifted.
City staff will remove any chairs placed along Ojai Avenue. Owners may collect removed chairs at the City’s Public Works yard, 408 S. Signal Street, during regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Additionally, at its upcoming May 26, 2020 Regular Meeting, the City Council will discuss plans for Independence Day festivities. This discussion will address whether in light of developing emergency orders the parade should proceed, proceed with implementing additional safety measures, or whether other actions be taken.
The City thanks the public for understanding necessary precautions must be taken during these unusual times, so that all residents can safety enjoy July Fourth.
